How can I enroll my child in home instruction with VVA?

See the options below for detailed instructions on enrolling your child in homeschooling with VVA.

Home Instruction: Academic Year, K–12

Home Instruction: Academic Year, K–12

Thank you for your interest in VVA academic year enrollment for learners in grades K–12!

Your student may either enroll through their local public school or be enrolled by the family as a homeschooled student.

Because Virtual Virginia partners closely with Virginia public schools, we encourage you to first contact your local school/division to discuss the VVA enrollment options available. If you do not know the specific person to contact at your local school/division, please email [email protected] to request the contact information of the counselor/coordinator responsible for VVA enrollment at your local school/division.

However, if you are unable to enroll in VVA academic year courses through your local school/division, then you may enroll your child as a VVA homeschooled student. Verify that you meet the VDOE requirements for Home Instruction and are approved by your local public school division of residence.

If you have already spoken with your local school/division and need to enroll your child as a VVA homeschooled student, please contact VVA Family Support Specialist Debbie Staughton at [email protected], and she will help you set up a VVA homeschooling account for you and your child.

Home Instruction: Summer Session, Grades 6–12

Home Instruction: Summer Session, Grades 6–12

Thank you for your interest in VVA Summer Session for learners in grades 6–12!

Your student may either enroll through their local public school or be enrolled by the family as a VVA Summer Session homeschooled student.

However, if you are unable to enroll in VVA Summer Session courses through your local school/division, then you may enroll your child as a VVA Summer Session homeschooled student. Your student’s summer VVA enrollments will only be active for Summer Session, so they can return to in-person learning at your local school for the regular academic year (if applicable).

Once a student is enrolled as homeschooled student (not associated with a Virginia public school division), the parent/guardian of the homeschooled student is bound by all laws and regulations set forth by the VDOE.
